“Opportunity” is a playful abstract artwork with highlights of squares and linework. This expressive art is about how when one door closes in life, another one opens.
When I started this piece of art, I had no specifics of what I wanted to create. I was simply playing with color and technique. In fact, another artist friend of mine and I were playing around in her studio with mediums and scrapers, so what was on the canvas was a hot mess. When I took it home, there was color everywhere, no composition or rhythm. That’s the great thing about art, though, is you can have so many layers before you start to see a picture form. You can have a mess and then just cover the whole thing up and start over. So I started layering with some white and gray, allowing some of my previous work to peek through. Then I added colored blocks and marks only to build something that became a final piece of art.
These many layers and marks allowed me the opportunity to create something wonderful. Hence the door of opportunity.
